Calendar Update and Well Done Caroline

Mon, 14 Sep 2009 17:58:50 GMT

Sorana in actionSorana Cirstea has unsubscribed from the China GDD-Guangzhou International Women's Open, which starts today, for a yet unknown reason. The next tournament in which she will participate now is the Hansol Korea Open, starting next week in Seoul.

Furthermore we would like to congratulate Sorana's doubles partner Caroline Wozniacki for her great US Open. Caroline finished the tournament as runner-up to Kim Clijsters, who concludes her comeback-month with her second Grand Slam of her career.

Caroline Wozniacki eliminates her friend Sorana

Sun, 06 Sep 2009 12:50:01 GMT

Sorana in actionSorana Cirstea has not been able to reach the fourth round of the 2009 US Open. In a third round against her good friend Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark she could never get into her own game. Caroline Wozniacki had no problems whatsoever to win her own service games. Sorana was only able to break once through her friend's service. Meanwhile Sorana herself was in all kinds of troubles on her own service, winning only 63% of the points on her first service and 37% on her second. Despite the third round elimination, the US Open is not over for Sorana, as she is still in the running in the doubles tournament together with this same Caroline Wozniacki.

Sorana Survives a Second Round Thriller

Thu, 03 Sep 2009 20:15:01 GMT

Sorana in actionSorana Cirstea won her first-ever encounter with Stephanie Dubois from Canada. In the second round of the US Open Sorana had to fight for every single point to reach the third round for the first time in New York. It was a very close game with three sets won only by a one-break-difference. Sorana started very well with a first set win, but then the Canadian took an important early lead in the second. Sorana was able to equalise again but eventually still lost the second set. In an extremely nerve-racking third set Sorana eventually was able to make a decisive last break in order to win the set and consequently also the match. Later today Sorana will know who she will meet in the third round, either good friend Caroline Wozniacki or Petra Martic.

Sorana Crushes Morita in New York

Tue, 01 Sep 2009 18:47:51 GMT

Sorana in actionSorana Cirstea won her first round match of the US Open in New York against Ayumi Morita from Japan. Morita is an upcoming talent, but Sorana managed to never let her come into her rhytmh. Sorana put pressure on the Japanese from start to finish, and with heavy returns during Morita's service games, Sorana managed to overpower the Japanese. It is only the second time that Sorana manages to reach the second round of the US Open, however after her more than decent hard-court season in America everyone is hoping to see the Romanian to reach the latter stages of the tournament. In the second round Sorana will meet Stephanie Dubois from Canada. It is the first-ever encounter between the two girls.

US Open Draw

Fri, 28 Aug 2009 18:59:25 GMT

Sorana PressToday the singles draw for the US Open has been released. Sorana will face Ayumi Morita in the first round. Ayumi Morita is a 19-year-old Japanese player and is currently ranked 66th in the world. THis makes her the second Japanese player in the ranking, about 20 places after Ai Sugiyama. Morita is known for strong and consistent two-handed groundstrokes which she hits very flat. She is also regarded as very tough mentally for a young player, often showing great resolve to win close matches despite a lackluster serve. Morita is a small and quick player with excellent footwork and movement around the court. Although she gets all these excellent reviews, she has never been able to survive the first round of a Grand Slam.
