No. 2-seeded Sorana Cirstea overcame five service breaks in taking a straight-set second-round win Wednesday at the $220,000 Estoril Open in Portugal.
Cirstea, coming off a lengthy three-set win Tuesday, edged home-crowd favorite Michelle Larcher de Brito 7-5, 7-5. The 24-game match featured a total of 12 service breaks.
Larcher de Brito handicapped herself with nine double faults. She also had nine in her first-round match.
Cirstea's quarterfinal opponent will be qualifier Arantxa Rus, who defeated Kirsten Flipkens 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.
