Today the singles draw for the US Open has been released. Sorana will face Ayumi Morita in the first round. Ayumi Morita is a 19-year-old Japanese player and is currently ranked 66th in the world. THis makes her the second Japanese player in the ranking, about 20 places after Ai Sugiyama. Morita is known for strong and consistent two-handed groundstrokes which she hits very flat. She is also regarded as very tough mentally for a young player, often showing great resolve to win close matches despite a lackluster serve. Morita is a small and quick player with excellent footwork and movement around the court. Although she gets all these excellent reviews, she has never been able to survive the first round of a Grand Slam.
Would Sorana survive the first round, she will meet either Stephanie Dubois or Kristina Mldadenovic in the second round. In a possible third round Sorana will most probably have to face her good friend and long time doubles partner Caroline Wozniacki, who is also the ninth seed at the tournament. After that, Svetlana Kuznetsova is a possible fourth round opponent.
